No, the problem is that first, he did NOT compile and data, second, the data that was compiled (by someone ELSE) was never intended to address the question being asked, and third, that his use of factor analysis fails even rudimentary statistical soundness. This is insane. It's frightening to me that this study has any credence with anyone- how do you build a study around subjective data and then try to explain it biologically without also considering the social confounds of your study? 1) who were the respondents demographically? 2) are there social factors (such as eurocentric beauty standards) influencing these opinions? When you consider that humans are SOCIALIZED to seek certain traits mates, gauge the viability a of potential mate based on that socialization, does this study give honest, biologically verifiable feedback when a more diverse group of respondents are questioned? When most of your respondents are white males who are socialized to seek women who resemble their mothers, who are taught by the rest of society to undervalue the beauty exhibited by people who look different than they do, is that really a study that imparts anything of value to the scientific community? This study, along with the "rural humans who are social are less intelligent" study are both fundamentally flawed; both have social implications that reinforce existing biases against people of color or lower socio-economic status by failing to address the social aspects that influence their results. Shame.
